## Start with your policy wording

United States auto policies vary by state, carrier, and the coverages you selected. There is no single national rule that says misfuel is always covered or always excluded. Before you assume insurance will pay, read your declarations page and the physical damage section of your policy, or call your insurer's claims line and ask how **wrong fuel in the tank** is treated under your specific contract.

## Comprehensive vs collision

**Comprehensive** coverage (sometimes called "other than collision") typically pays for sudden, accidental damage to your vehicle that is not a crash — theft, fire, weather, and similar events. Some carriers treat fuel contamination as a comprehensive claim if the wrong fuel caused damage after you drove; others treat it as a maintenance or operator-error issue and deny it. **Collision** coverage applies when your vehicle hits another object or vehicle — it is usually not the right bucket for a forecourt mix-up unless there was an actual impact.

Liability-only policies do not pay to repair your own vehicle. If you carry only bodily injury and property damage liability, you will generally pay recovery and repair yourself.

## Deductibles and rental cars

When comprehensive coverage does apply, you normally pay your **deductible** first. The insurer pays covered charges above that amount, subject to limits and exclusions. Rental company damage waivers and credit-card rental benefits are separate contracts — they are not the same as your personal auto policy. If you misfuel a rental car, notify the rental company immediately and check both your personal policy and any waiver you purchased.

## Documentation EEK provides

Insurers often ask for proof of what happened, what was done to the vehicle, and itemised charges. EEK Mechanical supplies tow records, workshop findings, and USIFDA-aligned documentation suitable for many adjusters. We do not guarantee any insurer will approve a claim — that decision is always between you and your carrier.
