Your engine oil is designed to lubricate, cool, and protect precision metal surfaces under extreme pressure. When water or coolant finds its way into the oil system, that protection breaks down quickly. Two of the most common culprits are bearing wear and head gasket failure — both of which can turn clean oil into a milky, contaminated fluid that accelerates engine damage with every passing hour.

Bearing wear creates tiny gaps between moving surfaces, allowing coolant to seep through compromised seals or passages. Head gasket failure is more direct: the gasket seals the combustion chamber, oil galleries, and cooling system apart. When it fails, pressurised coolant pushes straight into the oil circuit. Either way, the result is the same — water in oil.

Contaminated oil loses its ability to form a protective film. Metal surfaces begin to contact each other directly, causing accelerated wear on crankshafts, camshafts, and bearings. Water also promotes rust and corrosion inside the engine block, attacking surfaces that are impossible to inspect without full disassembly. Over time, the oil itself degrades into a thick, milky sludge that blocks narrow oil passages and starves components of lubrication. What starts as a minor gasket leak can progress to bearing failure, scored cylinders, or a seized engine if the vehicle continues to run.

Early detection matters enormously. The first visible sign is often a milky or frothy residue on the dipstick or inside the oil filler cap. You may also notice exhaust smoke with a sweet coolant smell, rising temperature gauges, or coolant loss without obvious external leaks. These symptoms mean the oil is already compromised. Continuing to drive, even briefly, spreads contamination throughout the entire system and multiplies the repair work required.

The most important rule is simple: do not start the engine. Running the engine circulates contaminated oil, pumps water into galleries and bearings, and turns a recoverable situation into significant internal damage. If you suspect water in your oil, stop and arrange proper recovery.

What to do right now. Park the vehicle safely and switch off the ignition. Check the dipstick for a milky or chocolate-coloured film. Look under the oil filler cap for the same frothy residue. Note any recent overheating, coolant loss, or changes in exhaust colour. Then call EEK Mechanical on (866) 777-3712. We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will dispatch a tow truck to collect your vehicle. Your vehicle is transported to a USIFDA-certified workshop where the full assessment and repair process takes place under controlled conditions to protect your engine warranty and ensure thorough work.

Pricing varies depending on your vehicle type, distance from our collection point, after-hours requirements, and how severely the oil is contaminated. Full itemised pricing is available on our rate card.

Water in oil never fixes itself. The sooner you act, the more of your engine we can protect. If you have seen milky oil, lost coolant without explanation, or suspect head gasket trouble, call (866) 777-3712 now. Our team is ready to collect your vehicle and begin tow-to-workshop recovery straight away.
